The Aiken High School Hornets Seek to Dominate South Carolina High School League Track and Field Championships

Local Track and Field Teams Competing for State Championships this Weekend

The South Carolina High School League track and field season has arrived, with state championship meets set to take place this weekend in Columbia. In recent years, championship rings have become synonymous with Aiken High, as the Hornets continue to dominate their region championships. The girls team has won nine titles in a row, while the boys have captured five consecutive championships.

As the state championship meet approaches, Aiken High will be joined by competitors from Region 4-AAAA schools Midland Valley, North Augusta, and South Aiken at Spring Valley High School. Collectively, these four schools have a total of 28 entrants in the state championship meet.

One athlete to watch is Eliza King from Aiken High, who seeks to become a four-time state champion in the javelin throw. She recently claimed the Upper State title and set a state record last year, and is poised for success at the next level. King will also compete in the long jump. Other standout athletes from Aiken High include Sandi King, Scotlynn Staley, and Malasia Jamison.
