The Philadelphia 76ers have chosen not to renew Jeff Dowtin Jr.’s contract for the upcoming season, according to a report from The Philadelphia Inquirer. Dowtin, a 27-year-old point guard, has played in 46 NBA games and has had stints with five different franchises. He averaged 4.3 points and 2.3 assists in limited playing time with the Sixers last season.
Despite being waived by the Sixers, Dowtin had an impressive season with the Delaware Blue Coats in the G League, where he averaged 19.1 points and 5.3 assists per game. One of his best performances with the Sixers came in a game against the Grizzlies, where he recorded 10 points, six assists, and three steals.
Kelly Oubre Jr., who played with Dowtin on the Sixers last season, praised his composure, pace of play, and ability to contribute when called upon. He also noted that Dowtin’s journey through the G League demonstrated his dedication and professionalism as a player.
With Dowtin’s option declined, the Sixers head into free agency with only Joel Embiid, Paul Reed, and Ricky Council IV under contract. Reed and Council’s deals are non-guaranteed, leaving the team with decisions to make as they navigate the offseason and look to fill out their roster for the upcoming season.
