In Vietnam, the importation of Thai fruits such as mangosteen, mini durian, rattan, and rambutan has increased in recent months. These fruits are being sold at competitive prices with Vietnamese goods, making them very attractive to consumers. Despite the lower prices of these fruits compared to last year, their quality remains high and is giving tough competition to Vietnamese products in the market.

At wholesale markets in Thu Duc and Hoc Mon, small traders are importing large quantities of Thai fruits. The wholesale prices for these fruits range from 25,000 to 45,000 VND per kg. The affordability of these fruits can be attributed to a decrease in shipping costs from Thailand to Vietnam.

The increase in imports of Thai fruits can be linked to the reduced output of domestic agricultural products due to adverse weather conditions. This year’s production of fruits like mangosteen, durian, and rambutan has decreased in various regions of Vietnam. As a result, there is a higher demand for imported fruits, especially from Thailand.

According to store owners and sellers in Ho Chi Minh City, Thai fruits have never been as cheap as they are this year. Prices for Thai mangosteen, bonbon, and rambutan are significantly lower than last year, making them popular choices among customers. The quality and prices of Thai fruits are giving tough competition to Vietnamese products in the market.

In the first 5 months of the year, fruit and vegetable import turnover in Vietnam has increased by over 14% compared to the same period last year. Thai fruit exports to Vietnam have also seen a significant increase, with many types of fruits experiencing double-digit growth in exports to the country. This indicates a growing preference for Thai fruits among Vietnamese consumers.

Overall, the affordability of imported Thai fruits is contributing to their popularity among Vietnamese consumers looking for quality products at competitive prices. While domestic production may still be preferred by some consumers due to cultural or geographical factors, it is clear that imported goods have found a place in Vietnamese markets due to their superior quality and affordability.
