Tesla Recalls Nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks Due to Accelerator Pedal Malfunction Caused by Improper Lubricant Use in Assembly Process

Tesla has issued a recall for nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks due to an issue with the accelerator pedal. The pedal can become stuck in place when pressed down, leading to safety concerns. The cause of the problem is believed to be soap, which was unapproved and introduced as lubricant during the assembly process at Tesla’s factory near Austin, Texas.

Tesla has not yet disclosed how many Cybertrucks have been produced so far, but it has stated that production will slowly ramp up. The first deliveries of the futuristic vehicle took place in late November. All Model Year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024 are affected by the recall. This likely includes most, if not all, of the trucks currently on US roads.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has stated that applying high force to the pad on the accelerator pedal may cause it to dislodge and become trapped under the car’s engine bay, preventing it from functioning properly. Workers at Tesla’s factory used soap improperly during assembly, leading to this issue. The accelerator sticking problem was initially reported on social media and online forums before NHTSA contacted Tesla for more information.

Unlike other Tesla recalls that can be fixed with software updates, this issue will require Cybertruck owners to bring their vehicles to service centers for repairs. Tesla has stated that these repairs will be done at no charge to customers as soon as possible. As of now, Tesla has not provided any further comment on the recall or its impact on production plans for future models.

Overall, this recall highlights the importance of proper training and oversight in manufacturing processes and underscores Tesla’s commitment to ensuring customer safety while continuing to innovate in electric vehicle technology.
