Tesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Rivian R1T: A Look at the Most Popular Electric Pickup Trucks in March

Data shows more F-150 Lightnings registered than Cybertrucks in March

According to S&P Global Mobility data, the Tesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Rivian R1T were the most popular electric pickup trucks in March. The Cybertruck had 1,158 new registrations while the Lightning had 2,893. Rivian’s R1T trailed behind with only 548 new vehicle registrations.

While Tesla did not respond to requests for comment on their Cybertruck’s popularity, it is known that they began delivering the vehicle in November and it quickly became the second-best-selling electric pickup truck. Despite this success, there have been challenges for both Tesla and Ford in the EV market. In fact, Tesla posted its first year-over-year quarterly decline since 2020 and Ford announced plans to downsize its workforce at the factory building the F-150 Lightning.

Some reservation-holders for the Cybertruck expressed dissatisfaction after they discovered that it was priced higher and had a lower range than initially advertised. However, before its debut, there were as many as 2 million reservations for the vehicle among celebrities who saw it as a status symbol.
