Witnesses recount the moment attacker plunges knife in Australian shopping center

The scene outside Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in Sydney on April 13 was chaotic as people ran screaming from the mall. An anonymous witness described how she saw a man pull out a knife and rush toward the crowd. She immediately ran away and heard gunshots shortly afterward.

Ellie Williams, 21 years old, was having lunch with her friends in the food court when she witnessed people running away screaming. She saw a man in a hoodie chasing people with a knife and heard gunshots as she left the area through an emergency exit.

Hannah Bodrozic and Guy Johnston were shopping in a store when they saw a group of young people fleeing and someone shouting that there had been a stabbing with a knife. Chaos ensued as they tried to figure out what was happening and where to go. The situation escalated as more people ran and gunshots were heard. The couple was shocked by the events unfolding in the mall.

Roi Huberman, a sound engineer, recounted how he heard gunshots while in a store and was told to go back inside and lock the door for safety. He eventually found a way to exit the mall through the back. At least five people died in the attack, with many others in critical condition. The suspect was shot by police and confirmed dead. Videos and photos on social media captured the intense situation at Westfield Bondi Junction, with ambulances and police cars flooding the area. Authorities cordoned off the scene and urged people to stay away amidst tragedy, shock, disbelief that such an incident could occur in Sydney
