Temporary Grounding: Alaska Airlines Halts Flights Due to Weight and Balance System Issue During Upgrade

Delays persist as Alaska Airlines lifts ground stop

Alaska Airlines has experienced a temporary grounding of its flights due to an issue that occurred during a system upgrade. The problem was related to the aircraft’s weight and balance system, which prompted the airline to request a precautionary ground stop for all Alaska and Horizon flights. The ground stop was put into effect at around 7:30 am Pacific Time, but it was later lifted at 8:30 am PT after the issue was resolved.

The Federal Aviation Administration also grounded Alaska Airlines flights nationwide at the airline’s request as a safety measure. Since then, Alaska Airlines has started releasing flights, but passengers should anticipate residual delays throughout the day. The airline has apologized for the inconvenience caused and advised passengers to check their flight status on their website or app before heading to the airport.
