Tech Titans Tackle Carbon Footprint through Renewable Energy Partnerships: EDP Renewables and Microsoft Team Up to Generate Over 226GWh of Electricity Annually

EDP Renewables and Unnamed Technology Firm Ink Deal for 176MWp PPA

In a bid to reduce their carbon footprint, tech companies are increasingly seeking out renewable energy sources to power their data centers and support AI development. EDP Renewables, in partnership with an undisclosed company, has developed projects that are expected to generate more than 226GWh of electricity annually.

One such project is a 100MWac solar park located near Jerseyville in Illinois. Developed in partnership with US solar financier and operator Volt Energy Utility, the Hickory solar park is set to commence operations this year. Microsoft has committed to acquiring renewable energy credits and electricity produced as part of a PPA for 15 years after operations commence.

This partnership marks a significant step towards a cleaner, more sustainable energy future for both EDP and Microsoft. For EDP, transitioning to cleaner energy consumption is a priority, and partnerships such as this one are crucial in achieving that goal, according to CEO Miguel Stilwell D’Andrade. By working together, these companies can help drive the shift towards renewable energy and reduce their impact on the environment.
