Team USA ready to defend Women’s World Championship gold title in Utica, New York

Team USA is set to defend their gold medal at the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championships in Utica, New York. Last year, they defeated Canada to claim the top spot and are coming off a gold-medal finish at the 2024 U18 Women’s Worlds as well. The roster will consist of 18 players who were part of the 2023 gold-winning team, along with some new faces to complete the lineup.

Among the returning players are forwards Kendall Coyne Schofield and Grace Zumwinkle, who missed the 2023 event for various reasons. Additionally, newcomers like Joy Dunne, Kirsten Simms, Laila Edwards, Sydney Morrow, and Gwyneth Philips will make their Women’s Worlds debut for Team USA in April. Head coach John Wroblewski expressed confidence in the team’s pedigree and excitement as they aim to compete for gold on home soil.

The American squad has consistently reached the gold-medal game at the Women’s Worlds, clinching gold 10 times in the event’s history. The expectations are high for Team USA as they strive to maintain their winning tradition and bring home another gold medal. General manager Katie Million highlighted the depth and talent of the player pool and expressed excitement for the 25 players selected to represent Team USA in Utica.

Group stage play will begin on April 3, with Team USA facing Switzerland at 6 p.m. CT at the Adirondack Bank Center. They will also play against Czechia, Finland, and Canada before advancing to the final rounds. The quarterfinals will take place on April 11, semifinals on April 13
