TCL Technology Group Corp. is facing a patent infringement lawsuit from Wi-LAN Inc. The complaint, filed in the US District Court for the Central District of California, alleges that three units of TCL Technology Group Corp., namely TCT Mobile (US) Inc., Huizhou TCL Mobile Communication Co., and TCL Mobile Communication (HK) Co., have been selling products that infringe on Wi-LAN’s patents for 4G wireless technology.
The lawsuit claims that these products are in violation of US Patent No. 8,259,688, which covers methods for “pre-allocated random access in wireless communication systems.” Wi-LAN is seeking damages and an injunction to stop the TCL units from continuing to sell products that allegedly infringe on their patents.
Wi-LAN Inc., along with its subsidiaries Wi-LAN USA Inc. and Wi-LAN Labs Inc., has been at the forefront of developing 4G wireless technology and holds several patents related to it. The outcome of this lawsuit will determine whether TCL Technology Group Corp. will be held accountable for alleged patent infringement, and whether they will be forced to stop selling their products or pay damages to Wi-LAN.
