Tackling the Digital Age: A Guide to Navigating Behavioral Health Risks for Children and Parents

May 1 event highlights the risks of technology for children, free to attend

Polk Vision is hosting an all-day event on May 1st titled “Conversations in Behavioral Health: Navigating the Digital Age” at the Polk State College Center for Public Safety in Winter Haven. The purpose of this event is to educate parents and professionals who work with children about the challenges and risks associated with technology.

The lineup of speakers includes Dr. Lisa Strohman, a technology wellness and behavioral health expert, and co-author of “Digital Distress: Growing Up Online.” Dr. Strohman will discuss the difficulties of raising responsible digital citizens and offer guidance on establishing a healthy balance of technology use for children. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd will talk about “Digital Danger: Parental Awareness Required,” while Polk County Public Schools Superintendent Frederick Heid will address “Social Media’s Impact on Adverse Childhood Experiences,” exploring how the digital world influences children’s relationships and mental well-being.

Additional speakers at the event include Dana Chandler, co-author of the “Digital Distress: Growing Up Online Companion Workbook,” and Amanda Wilson, author of “You Can SOAR: From Trauma & Grief to Triumph & Glory.” Registration for the event is done online, and it is recommended to secure a spot as space is limited.
