T20 Cricket World Cup: USA Advances to Super 8s Despite Stormy Week in South Florida

USA progresses to Super 8s in T20 Cricket World Cup as match against Ireland is called off due to weather

Severe storms in South Florida this week led to a state of emergency being declared after heavy rainfall in various counties. This was not enough to stop the USA from advancing to the Super 8s of the T20 Cricket World Cup, as they had already qualified with their wins against Pakistan and Ireland.

Harmeet Singh, Nitish Kumar, and Shadley Van Schalkwyk posed for a photo before the match against Ireland at Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium on June 14, 2024. The match was called off due to an unplayable pitch after multiple delays and a thunderstorm, awarding the Americans a point.

As a result of this decision, Pakistan was eliminated from the competition as they needed the U.S. to lose and a victory over Ireland to have any chance of advancing. India leads Group A with 6 points, followed by the USA with 5 points. Canada and Ireland are tied for third place with 2 points each.

The top two teams from Group B will also advance to the Super 8s along with India and Pakistan. The U.S will face South Africa, West Indies, and either Scotland or England in the Second Round, with only two teams progressing to the semifinals.
