Grapevine Joins in ‘World’s Largest Swim Lesson’ Event – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Grapevine is joining the global effort to prevent drownings with the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson. On June 20, families are invited to free swimming lessons at Pleasant Glade Pool, one of the official locations for this event. This year marks its 15th anniversary and expects over 39,000 participants worldwide in various waterparks, aquatic centers, and swim schools across six continents over a 24-hour period.

Chris Smith, Director for Grapevine Parks and Recreation, expressed excitement about participating in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson. He emphasized the importance of water safety and their commitment to providing the community with necessary knowledge and skills to stay safe in and around water. Drowning is a leading cause of death for children ages 1-4 in the US, with deaths increasing overall in recent years. Over 4,500 people drowned each year from 2020-2022 representing an increase compared to 2019. In 2022 alone, drowning among children ages 1-4 increased by 28%.

During this event, participants will receive a free swimming lesson conducted by certified instructors who focus on teaching fundamental water safety skills like proper breathing techniques, floating, and basic swimming strokes. The goal is to instill confidence in the water and encourage ongoing participation in swimming lessons. The lesson takes place on June 20 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Pleasant Glade Pool located at 1805 Hall-Johnson Road in Grapevine TX
