Swiatek and Potapova to Kick off French Open Women’s Draw; Gauff and Cocciaretto to face Off in Eagerly Anticipated Men’s Matches

Preview of Swiatek’s fourth-round action on day eight

The French Open is set to start on Sunday, with defending champion Iga Swiatek leading the charge in the women’s draw. Swiatek has won each of her past 17 matches at Roland Garros and will be the favorite to reach the quarter-finals for a fifth consecutive year. In contrast, Anastasia Potapova has just made it to the fourth round for the first time after beating Xinyu Wang of China in a three-set encounter.

The match between Swiatek and Potapova will open proceedings on Court Phillippe Chatrier at 10:00 BST on Sunday. Meanwhile, American third seed Coco Gauff will take on unseeded Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto in another highly anticipated match. Cocciaretto has already knocked out two seeded opponents this year, beating Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first round and cruising past Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets last time out.

In the men’s draw, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are all scheduled to be in action. Sinner faces 21st seed Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada, who has never reached the quarter-finals in Paris but does boast three wins over Sinner on hard courts across his career. Alcaraz faces Rublev, while Tsitsipas plays against Matteo Arnaldi, an Italian world number 35 who beat sixth seed Andrey Rublev on Friday.

The winner of Gauff’s match with Cocciaretto will meet the victor of Tsitsipas’ match with Arnaldi to determine who advances to the quarter-finals. The night session match on Court Phillippe Chatrier will see Sinner face Corentin Moutet, the final Frenchman remaining in the men’s draw.
