Survey Reveals Increasing Concerns over Social Media’s Influence on Politics and the Need for Regulation

The perspectives of Americans on technology corporations

A recent survey by the Pew Research Center has revealed that most Americans have concerns about the role of social media in politics and its impact on the country. These concerns are increasingly prevalent among Democrats, while Republicans also have their own set of worries, such as a belief that major technology companies exhibit bias towards liberals.

The survey asked Americans about three main areas: social media’s impact on politics and the country, political censorship and bias in Big Tech, and government regulation of technology companies. In terms of social media’s impact on politics and the country, the survey found that since 2020, more Americans, especially Democrats, feel that social media companies have too much political power. Around 78% of Americans believe that these companies have too much power and influence in politics today, which is an increase from the 72% reported in 2020. Only 16% believe that these sites have the right amount of political influence, and just 4% think that they do not have enough power.

Overall, the survey highlights growing concerns among Americans about the influence of social media in politics and the need for more regulation and oversight in this area.
