Surprising Wins and World Records at the Diamond League Championships

Keely Hodgkinson impresses with victory over Mary Moraa in 800m, while Grant Holloway achieves world lead in 110m hurdles

In a stunning upset, Emily Grove emerged victorious in the women’s pole vault at the Diamond League Championships. Grove cleared 4.63m on her final attempt, while world and Olympic champion Katie Moon chose to skip that height. Both athletes failed to clear 4.73m in three attempts.

In the triple jump, Leyanis Perez Hernandez won with a first-round jump of 14.73m. Despite having to stop her final attempt due to a mistake in her run-up, she was able to secure victory over Thea Lafond and Shanieka Ricketts.

Beatrice Chepkoech set a world record pace in the 3000m steeplechase but was outsprinted by Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai at the final barrier. Chemutai finished with a new national record of 8:55.09, the fastest time in the world this year.

Ethiopian runners dominated the women’s 5000m, with Tsigie Gebreselama winning in a world-leading time of 14:18.76
