Sunderland’s interest in a Premier League side this summer has been dampened by their reportedly high asking price for one of their top players, according to journalist Alan Nixon. The team recently welcomed a new manager, Regis Le Bris from France, and there is uncertainty about which players will form the squad for the upcoming season. Despite this, several players are garnering interest from other clubs, including goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, midfielder Jobe Bellingham, and winger Jack Clarke.
One such player who has attracted interest is winger Jack Clarke. Southampton, who have secured promotion back to the Premier League, are said to be keen on signing him but have been deterred by Sunderland’s valuation of £18 million for the player. The club believes that this price is too high and has caused them to reconsider their interest in Clarke. However, Clarke still has two years remaining on his contract with Sunderland so the club holds the leverage in negotiations.
Clarke was a standout performer for Sunderland last season, making 40 appearances in the Championship and scoring 15 goals. His impressive performances caught the attention of Southampton but unfortunately a potential deal is now in jeopardy due to Sunderland’s high asking price.
Despite this setback for Southampton, it is clear that Clarke has great potential and could excel at the top level if given the opportunity. It remains to be seen whether Sunderland will lower their asking price or if they will hold onto him until his contract expires.
The uncertainty surrounding Sunderland’s squad for next season continues as they navigate through negotiations with other clubs and strive to find a way forward with key players like Clarke.
