Summer McIntosh Breaks World Record in 400m Individual Medley

At the 2024 Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials, Summer McIntosh set a new world record in the 400m individual medley with a time of 4:24:38. This was an impressive improvement of almost a second and a half from her previous world record set at the same event last year.

McIntosh’s outstanding performance earned her a nomination to compete in the 400m individual medley at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which will be her first time swimming this event at the Olympic Games. She shared her goals for Paris, expressing her excitement to compete and have fun in the 400m individual medley. McIntosh emphasized the importance of strategy and pacing, particularly in the breaststroke, which she identified as her weakest stroke.

Grateful for the support of the crowd, McIntosh thanked the spectators for their energy and encouragement during her race. She credited the crowd’s enthusiasm with helping to push her through the challenging breaststroke portion of the event.

In addition to the 400m individual medley, McIntosh will also be competing in three more events over the next three days: the 100m Freestyle, the 200m butterfly, and the 200m individual medley. The Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials will conclude on Sunday, May 19th.
