Subsea 7’s Award for Turkey’s First Floating Production Unit: A Significant Milestone in Deepwater Gas Field Development

Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center AS (TP-OTC) has recently awarded Subsea 7 S.A. a substantial contract for the development of the Sakarya field in the Black Sea, off the coast of Turkey. This award will be reflected in the company’s backlog for the second quarter of 2024. Initially, a contract was issued in May 2023 to a consortium that included SLB, Subsea Integration Alliance, and Saipem for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of the second phase (2a) of the Sakarya gas field. With this new award, the scope of work has been expanded to include the installation of Turkey’s first floating production unit as part of the Phase 2a development.

Subsea 7’s responsibilities will involve the installation and integration of risers, umbilicals, hook-ups, and mooring systems with the floating production unit. Project management and engineering will be overseen from the Subsea 7 office in Istanbul, Turkey. Olivier Blaringhem, CEO of Subsea Integration Alliance expressed pride in receiving this extension and emphasized collaboration with TP-OTC and other partners to maximize potential opportunities at Sakarya gas field while supporting Turkey’s energy security goals.

Franck Louvety, Senior VP of Subsea 7’s Global Project Center – West highlighted that this award marks a significant milestone towards ongoing development of Turkey’s first deepwater gas field. He noted that collaboration with TP-OTC and other consortium partners would lead to another important step forward for country with installation of its first floating production unit.
