Stunning Image Reveals Secrets of Milky Way’s Tiny Cousin: The NGC 3783 Galaxy Group

Hubble captures a vivid pairing of a galaxy and a star

The Hubble Space Telescope captured a stunning image of NGC 3783, a barred spiral galaxy located about 130 million light-years away from Earth. This galaxy is the namesake of the NGC 3783 galaxy group, which comprises a collection of gravitationally bound galaxies. Unlike galaxy clusters that can contain hundreds or thousands of galaxies, galaxy groups are smaller and less massive formations that typically include fewer than 50 members.

Galaxy groups like the Milky Way’s Local Group, which includes Andromeda and the Triangulum galaxy as well as several satellite and dwarf galaxies, are fascinating to study. The NGC 3783 galaxy group consists of 47 galaxies and appears to be in an early stage of evolution, making it an exciting subject for further investigation.
