Student Protests Turn Violent: A Look at the Unprecedented Incident at La Sapienza University

Government Protests in Rome Lead to Police Clashes

The students at La Sapienza University marched in protest against the government, holding a banner that read “Genocide and war begin at the university. Stop agreements. You will not stop our anger.” As they made their way towards Porta Pia, they were met with resistance from state police.

In an act of defiance, some demonstrators deviated from the planned route and headed towards Termini station and the city center. Police responded with tear gas, but the young people fought back by throwing firecrackers, paper bombs, and lighting smoke bombs.

As tensions escalated, clashes erupted in Castro Pretorio between the protesters and police. The situation was volatile as both sides refused to back down from their positions. In the midst of all this chaos, a cardboard plane was burned in front of the Air Force building on Viale dell’Università.
