Streamlining Customs Procedures for Transit Goods: A Major Breakthrough for Turkish, Georgian, and Azerbaijani Economies

On August 18, 2022, the governments of Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan signed an agreement in Baku to facilitate customs transit works within the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project. The agreement aims to simplify customs procedures for goods transported in transit on the railway, which passes through all three countries.

Construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway began in 2007 and was officially opened in 2017. This railway is an important transportation link connecting the three countries and facilitating trade and transit of goods between them.

The agreement approved by the President of Turkey will help streamline customs procedures for goods moving through the railway, making it easier and more efficient for businesses to transport their products between Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. This development is expected to further boost economic cooperation and trade between the three countries.

Overall, the agreement on the exchange of data for customs transit within the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project represents a significant step towards enhancing transportation infrastructure and facilitating trade in the region. It demonstrates the commitment of the three countries to strengthening economic ties and promoting regional cooperation.
