Stellantis Workers in Warren, Michigan Authorize Strike Amid Health and Safety Concerns

Employees at the Stellantis plant in Detroit vote to strike amid concerns over health and safety matters

In Warren, Michigan, over 1,000 workers at a Stellantis metal stamping plant have voted to authorize a strike due to health and safety concerns. The workers, represented by UAW Local 869, have raised grievances about various issues including ventilation fans, ergonomic matting, personal protective equipment, flooding, basement lighting, and oil leaks.

Although the strike authorization has been granted, the UAW has not yet set a deadline for the strike. Discussions are still ongoing and workers remain on the job at the factory. The union emphasizes the importance of addressing these issues to ensure that workers feel valued and have a sense of ownership in the workplace.

The Warren plant supplies components to several Stellantis plants, including those in Windsor, Ontario and Saltillo, Mexico. A potential strike could impact the production of vehicles such as the Ram pickup, Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wagoneer. Stellantis has stated that they are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment and are working towards resolving the concerns to avoid a work stoppage.
