Steelers Sign Former Chiefs Tight End Izaiah Gathings to Boost Tight End Depth Chart Amid Offseason Changes

Former Chiefs Tight End Signs One-Year Contract with Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced the signing of former Kansas City Chiefs tight end Izaiah Gathings to a one-year contract following a tryout. Gathings, who played college football at Middle Tennessee, made the transition from wide receiver to tight end during his time with the Chiefs. Despite having minimal impact during his time with the team, recording just one reception during the preseason, Gathings brings some experience to the Steelers’ crowded tight end depth chart.

With Gathings added to the roster, the Steelers now have Pat Freiermuth, Connor Heyward, Darnell Washington, Rodney Williams, and MyCole Pruitt on board. It is expected that the team will only keep three tight ends for the upcoming season. As they go through OTAs, the Steelers are evaluating all players on their roster with new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith in place. With wide receiver and cornerback remaining as question marks for the team, roster moves may be necessary in the near future as they continue to shape their squad for 2021. Stay tuned for updates on the Steelers’ roster as they navigate through this offseason.
