Steelers Land Rookie Offensive Tackle Troy Fautanu on Four-Year Deal: A Look at His Time at the University of Washington and Potential Impact on the Team

Steelers add first-round pick Troy Fautanu to roster

The Steelers are thrilled to have signed first-round offensive tackle Troy Fautanu to a four-year rookie deal. Fautanu, who was the 20th overall pick, played college football at the University of Washington. This is the second consecutive year in which the Steelers have used their first selection on an offensive lineman. General Manager Omar Khan expressed his excitement at having Fautanu join the organization, noting that they had been keeping an eye on him for some time.

Fautanu was highly regarded on their draft board and was the player they had targeted. He achieved numerous accolades during his time at Washington, including being named All-Pac-12 first team in 2023 and winning the Morris Trophy as the top offensive lineman in the Pac-12 Conference. In addition to playing left tackle, Fautanu also started at left guard, showcasing his versatility.

With Fautanu signed, only second-round center Zach Frazier remains unsigned among the Steelers’ draft class. The team had extensive interactions with Fautanu before selecting him, meeting with him at the Combine and having him visit the facility as a part of a 30-visit. Their satisfaction with selecting him was evident as they waited for their turn during the draft and saw him still available at their pick. Overall, the Steelers are excited to have Fautanu on board and are looking forward to seeing him contribute to the team.
