World Premiere Receives Almost 8-Minute Standing Ovation at Cannes

George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and received a standing ovation after its final frame played in the Palais. The cast of the film includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Tom Burke. Baz Luhrmann described the film as a “steampunk, Wagnerian opera.”

The origin story of the movie centers around young Furiosa, who is kidnapped and falls into the hands of a Biker Horde led by Warlord Dementus, played by Hemsworth. She then transfers her loyalty to Joe, played by Burke, and forms a bond with a mysterious warrior in the Wasteland as they team up to take control of petroleum.

Anya Taylor-Joy shared her experience filming the movie, noting the isolation and emotional depth of her character, Furiosa. George Miller talked about his addiction to making Mad Max movies and expressed his excitement for the release of Furiosa, following the success of Fury Road.
