Spring Shift: Worcester County Prepares for Another Winter Storm as the Forecast Looms”.

Shrewsbury business bracing for weather impact this week

Spring has arrived in Shrewsbury, but the forecast for Central Massachusetts is not entirely optimistic. Meteorologists predict that parts of the region could be hit with up to 8 inches of snow as a storm moves in on Wednesday.

At Papa’s Hardware, owner Fred Betti is preparing for the incoming storm. While the store had been receiving shipments of flowers for spring, they will now have to be put back inside due to the expected snow. Instead, Betti will be putting out winter gear like shovels and ice melt, of which there is plenty in stock.

The National Weather Service forecasts a mix of snow and rain starting on Wednesday morning, with Worcester possibly seeing 1 to 2 inches of snow by the evening. A winter storm watch has been issued for Northern Worcester County, with predictions of heavy wet snow and sleet accumulating up to 4 inches, with 8 inches near the New Hampshire border.

Despite the frustrating prospect of winter weather in the spring, Betti remains optimistic that warmer weather will soon arrive. With a delivery of cold-tolerant crops coming in, he is making sure to protect the plants from harsh weather conditions. While changing seasons present challenges for businesses like Papa’s Hardware, Betti remains hopeful that spring will bring new opportunities and growth opportunities once again.
