Sports Card Enthusiast Turns Passion into Profit: David Vega’s Journey in the Collectible Industry

Marlborough hosts Northeast Sports Card Expo

David Vega, a lifelong collector and owner of South Coast Collectibles, has transformed his childhood passion for Pokémon cards into a thriving business and a way of life. Over the past 25 years, he has amassed an impressive collection of sports cards and non-sports cards, which he showcases at various card shows around the region.

At the Northeast Sports Card Expo in Marlborough, more than 400 vendors gathered to display their collections and connect with fellow collectors. Vega, a New Bedford native, was among the vendors at the expo, excited to share his love for sports cards with others. He said that he attends similar card shows regularly, where he showcases his collection and interacts with other enthusiasts.

Over the years, Vega has seen the hobby of collecting cards evolve and grow, with more people getting into it and rediscovering their old passions. He believes that selling and trading cards at shows is not just about making money but also about sharing nostalgia with others. The largest card show in the region featured special appearances like the Boston Red Sox World Series trophy and the Boston Bruins mascot, adding to the excitement of the event.

The Northeast Sports Card Expo will continue on Sunday at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center, providing collectors and enthusiasts with another day to explore the world of sports cards. Vega hopes that more people will join him in this exciting hobby and create new memories while doing so.
