Sports Betting, Fantasy Sports and Charitable Gaming: Minnesota House To Review Changes Made to Bill in Upcoming Hearing

Minnesota House will consider sports betting bill

On Wednesday, the Minnesota House will hold another hearing to discuss a bill that aims to legalize sports betting in the state. If passed, this bill would allow individuals to place bets on mobile apps and at 11 tribal casinos. The Commerce Committee Chair, Zack Stephenson of Coon Rapids, shared that a new provision in the bill has been added which will establish a regulatory authority for daily fantasy sports betting.

During the upcoming hearing, the committee will have an opportunity to review and understand the changes made to the bill in the State Government committee. The focus of the hearing will be on providing information about these changes and how they will impact the bill’s progress.

In addition to sports betting-related adjustments, Stephenson’s amendment also includes modifications for charitable gaming. These changes are expected to bring about $40 million in annual tax relief for pull-tab operators. However, concerns have been raised by the state’s horse tracks regarding its potential impact on their operations.
