Spicy and Authentic: Vindaloo named one of the world’s top-rated pork dishes

Vindaloo Recognized as the 14th Best Pork Dish Worldwide

Taste Atlas has recently published a list of the top-rated pork dishes from around the world, based on their internal rankings. Among the top 50 dishes, one that caught people’s attention was Vindaloo, an iconic Indian delicacy that ranked 14th with a 4.4 rating out of 5.

Vindaloo is a spicy curry-like dish that is popular in Goa and the Konkan region of India. While pork is the traditional meat used in Vindaloo, it can also be made with chicken, mutton, or vegetables. The name Vindaloo is derived from the Portuguese dish “carne de vinha d’alhos,” which means meat marinated in wine and garlic. Over time, the dish evolved in India with the addition of local spices such as tamarind, cinnamon, cardamom, and chilies.

The list of the best pork dishes in the world was topped by dishes from Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. Lechona from Colombia took first place on the list followed by Pernil from Puerto Rico and Gringas from Mexico at second and third place respectively. Vindaloo from India was only Indian dish to make it into the top 15 of the list.

Indian cuisine has previously featured prominently on Taste Atlas’ lists. In a previous list of the best stews in the world, nine Indian dishes were included, which was more than any other country listed. This shows Taste Atlas considers a wide range of dishes under various categories showcasing not only diversity but also richness of Indian cuisine.
