Sparks standout rookie Cameron Brink leaves court with knee injury against Sun

Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink sustained a knee injury during the first quarter of Tuesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. The injury occurred when Brink fell to the court after contact with Sun forward Brionna Jones while driving to the basket. She immediately grabbed her left knee after awkwardly planting her leg, despite struggling to stand, Brink eventually made her way to the sideline with help from her teammates. However, she had to be carried off the court by trainers once she reached the bench.

The Sparks confirmed at halftime that Brink’s injury was to her knee and she would not be returning to the game, but did not provide further details on its severity. The loss of their star player caused a stir in the team and fans alike as they watched in horror as Brink was carried off the court.

Brink, who was drafted as the No. 2 pick in April’s WNBA Draft out of Stanford, had been averaging 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.4 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game through 14 games prior to the injury. She was also recently selected to be a part of Team USA’s 3×3 basketball team for the upcoming Paris Olympics which has added more weight to this unfortunate incident
