Spain’s Video Game Industry Surges to Third Largest in EU with €2.3 Billion Turnover and 20 Million Players

Spain’s video game industry sees a 16.3% increase in turnover and reaches 20 million players in 2023.

In recent years, Spain’s video game industry has experienced significant growth, with both the number of players and turnover increasing significantly. In 2023 alone, there were over 20 million registered players in Spain, dedicating themselves to digital entertainment. The turnover of the sector reached €2,339 million, representing a 16.3% increase compared to the previous year. This growth solidifies Spain as the third-largest market in the European Union after Germany and France.

The increase in turnover can be attributed to growth in both physical and online sales. Physical sales saw a 24.85% increase, with a turnover of €1,038 million euros, while online sales grew by 10.25%, reaching €1,301 million euros. The best-selling products include video game consoles, accessories, and game titles in genres like action, adventure, and sports.

In addition to this growth in turnover, there has also been an increase in the number of players in Spain. While men continue to dominate the gaming scene, there is evidence that the gender balance is becoming more equal. Spanish gamers prefer using smartphones and consoles for gaming and spend an average of 7.7 hours per week playing games on these platforms.
