Spain began their EURO 2024 campaign against Croatia with a bang, scoring early goals from Álvaro Morata and Fabián Ruiz. These goals gave Luis de la Fuente’s team a comfortable lead in the game. Morata, who plays for Atlético de Madrid, has now scored seven goals in the last three European Championships, putting him close to Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal tally in the same period. Furthermore, Morata is nearing Cesc Fàbregas’ record of eight goal involvements at the Euros, currently ranking third in the all-time list for goals behind Michel Platini and Ronaldo. Perhaps this will put an end to Morata’s reputation as his country’s scapegoat.
