Spain Ranks Seventh in World’s Digital Skills, Emphasizes Importance of Gender Parity in Online Learning and Accessible Solutions for Workforce Evolution

New Report Reveals Spain’s Digital Skills Ranking

A new report released by Coursera, an online learning platform, has ranked Spain as the seventh country in the world with the highest digital skills. The study was based on data from millions of students and institutional partners worldwide.

The report highlights that Spanish students are eager to acquire the necessary skills for Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and excel in technology and data science. According to the report, Spain ranks seventh overall in Technology, with a focus on skills like Bioinformatics, Programming Languages, and Distributed Computing Architecture. The report also suggests that Spain is on track to surpass the forecast of basic digital skills for the population by 2030.

Spanish companies are investing in training their employees to leverage technology, with 85% already doing so. The report also emphasizes gender parity in online learning in Spain, with almost half of the students being women. As the workforce evolves, the need for digital skills becomes more critical, with two-thirds of jobs at risk of automation. Coursera’s report aims to provide practical insights for Spanish organizations, governments, and educational institutions to prepare for the future of work.

The study shows that European students demonstrate a high level of skill mastery, with Switzerland and Germany leading the ranking. Despite a decline in cybersecurity enrollments, there has been a significant increase in GenAI course enrollments in Europe. The report underscores the importance of accessible learning pathways as the labor market continues to evolve rapidly. With a large percentage of workers needing retraining, flexible and accessible learning solutions are essential.

Since October 2021, over 2.3 million Spaniards have enrolled in Coursera courses. The platform continues to offer new skills to users through Machine Learning technology and translated courses. The report underscores the need to bridge the digital skills gap and adapt to the changing landscape of work to ensure a competitive workforce in the future.

In conclusion, Spain’s ranking as seventh country in terms of digital skills is commendable given its commitment towards developing its digital talent pool through investments made by its companies towards employee training programs.
