Palestine celebrates Spain joining lawsuit against Israel at ICJ over genocide risk in Gaza

On Thursday, the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to Spain for its decision to join South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel for genocide. The ministry called it a commitment to justice and international law, and urged other countries to follow suit.

In a statement on social media, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry emphasized the need for all states party to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide to actively participate in the ICJ proceedings. The ministry highlighted the ongoing conflict in Gaza and stressed the importance of upholding justice and international law.

Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares announced that Spain would join South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel at the ICJ. He cited Israel’s failure to comply with court precautionary measures as justification for Spain’s intervention, noting that these measures are mandatory for all parties involved in the dispute.

The Palestinian Authority welcomed Spain’s decision and encouraged other countries to support legal action against Israel. The foreign ministry stressed that it is a responsibility that all nations must uphold for humanity and law.
