Spain Achieves Historic Milestone with 21 Million Members of Social Security; Surge in Seasonal Employment Drives Job Growth Across Industries

Spain Surpasses 21 Million Members for the First Time Following the Creation of 199,500 Jobs in April

In a remarkable development, Spain has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing 21 million members of Social Security. This was made possible through the creation of 199,538 jobs in April, despite a slower pace compared to last year due to Easter falling in the same month. The total number of people working in the country is not accurately reflected by this figure, as individuals with multiple jobs are registered with just one affiliation per job.

The surge in seasonal employment led to an unprecedented 21,101,505 affiliations to the system. Despite this impressive growth, it is essential to note that it does not represent the total number of people employed in the country. The Ministry reported that self-employment also grew in April with 11,987 new self-employed workers.

The hospitality sector saw significant job creations with 91,913 new positions, accounting for 47% of all jobs created in April. The tourism industry played a vital role in driving this growth, particularly in regions where bars and restaurants prepare for increased tourist traffic during springtime. Agriculture, livestock farming, fishing, industry and construction also experienced job increases during this period.

Unemployment figures decreased by 60,503 individuals in April at Sepe offices, bringing the total number of unemployed persons to 2,666,500 people. This reduction marks a positive trend for Spain’s labor market and highlights improvements across all sectors. When analyzing data without seasonal fluctuations
