South Florida’s Largest Publicly Available Telescope Ready for Solar Eclipse Viewing on April 8

Cox Science Center to Present Solar Eclipse Viewing Event

The Cox Science Center and its Marmot Observatory are hosting a solar eclipse viewing on Monday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Although South Florida won’t be able to see the totality of the eclipse, guests can still catch a glimpse of the partial eclipse through the observatory’s 10-foot refracting telescope with solar filters. This telescope is the largest publicly available telescope in South Florida and no solar glasses are required to view the eclipse.

Experts from the Marmot Observatory will be present to answer any space-related questions during this event. The eclipse will begin at 1:48 p.m., reach its maximum at 3:30 p.m., and end at 4:15 p.m. A view through the telescope is included with a general admission ticket, and solar viewing glasses will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for those who want them.

If you are unable to attend the event at the Cox Science Center, several Palm Beach County library branches will be giving away solar glasses for viewing the eclipse. For more information on this event or how to obtain solar glasses, visit coxsciencecenter.org/event/solar-eclipse-viewing or contact your local library branch for details on obtaining free glasses for viewing the partial solar eclipse in South Florida on April 8th .
