South County Businesses Brace for Tourism Boom with Renewed Optimism and New Ventures

Area businesses get ready for tourist season as it approaches: A business round-up

The bustling tourist season in Narragansett, Rhode Island is just around the corner and local businesses are preparing for the influx of visitors with renewed optimism. Joe Viele, the executive director of the Southern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, has reported that many businesses in South County are gearing up for the pre-summer rush.

In anticipation of the busy season, several new businesses have opened or renovated their locations in the region. For example, O’Reilly Auto Parts opened a store on Kingstown Road in Wakefield while Celeste (formerly Trio) completed renovations at its Narragansett location in the Pier. Tower Hill Brewing Co., after two years of planning, has finally opened its doors to share their craft beers made on site and a wide-open taproom at 25 Village Square Drive in the South County Commons in Wakefield. Guests are also allowed to bring their own food since there is no kitchen on site.

The South County Tourism Council is also advertising spring specials at various businesses and restaurants on their website (www.southcountyri.com). Despite the positive outlook for the upcoming tourist season, challenges remain in the hospitality industry, particularly with finding enough help to meet the demands of the busy season.
