South Carolina Coach Dawn Staley Upholds Principle of Inclusion in Women’s Sports

Dawn Staley of South Carolina weighs in on transgender women’s participation in sports.

In a press conference before the NCAA Tournament championship game, South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley voiced her support for transgender women competing in women’s sports. She stated that if someone identifies as a woman and wants to participate in sports, they should be allowed to do so.

Staley acknowledged that her stance might face criticism on social media but remained unwavering in her conviction and was prepared to confront any backlash. This wasn’t the first time she had been asked questions unrelated to the game by a reporter from OutKick, but she responded with composure and shared her views on crucial issues.

South Carolina, as the No. 1 seed, was set to play against Iowa, also a No. 1 seed, in the national championship at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Social media users praised Staley for speaking out in defense of transgender women in sports, highlighting her willingness to express her opinion on important matters.
