Solar Eclipse 2024: A Combination of Education and Entertainment through Partnerships between NASA, Microsoft, SPAR and Sci-Port Discovery Center

Shreveport’s Parks and Science Museum Hosts Free Eclipse Event

The solar eclipse of 2024 is rapidly approaching, and NASA, Twitch, and Microsoft have partnered up to provide a unique and engaging experience for viewers. Alongside the livestream, gamers will have the chance to participate in special events within Fortnite and Minecraft.

As excitement builds for the upcoming eclipse, SPAR has teamed up with Sci-Port Discovery Center to host an educational event at Southern Hills on April 6th at 2:00 PM. Attendees will be able to delve into the mysteries of astronomy through hands-on demonstrations, interactive activities, and expert-led discussions offered by Sci-Port Discovery Center. Highlights of the event include presentations on the phases of the moon, explanations of different types of eclipses, foam rocket activities, and a Mars helicopter activity aimed at inspiring attendees.

This free event is open to all who are eager to learn more about science while having fun exploring it. Shelly Ragle, SPAR Director, expressed her excitement about working with Sci-Port Discovery Center. Her goal is to foster a love for science and learning in an accessible way that encourages people of all ages to participate. Dianne Clark, Executive Director of Sci-Port Discovery Center shared her enthusiasm for the event as she highlighted the center’s commitment to sparking curiosity and inspiring a lifelong passion for science.
