Sociologists Recognized for Excellence in Science and Society: A Double Honor on April 29, 2024

Premier Science Associations Honor Eight Sociologists

The American Sociological Association (ASA) congratulated eight sociologists on April 29, 2024, in Washington, DC. These distinguished individuals were recognized by premier science associations for their exceptional achievements in the field of sociology.

On the same day, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences elected six sociologists to its new 2024 cohort of members. This recognition acknowledges and celebrates their excellence. As members of the academy, these individuals have been invited to connect across disciplines and boundaries to advance the common good.

The sociologists included in the 2024 cohort of new American Academy of Arts & Sciences members are Deborah Carr from Boston University, Bruce Carruthers from Northwestern University, Prudence Carter from Brown University, Manuel Castells from USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, Adia Harvey Wingfield from Washington University in St. Louis, and Sasha Killewald from the University of Michigan.

Furthermore, two sociologists were recognized by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in its latest class of fellows for their distinguished efforts in advancing science or applying it for the benefit of society. These scholars include Michelle J. Budig from the University of Massachusetts and Kathryn Yount from Emory University.

The ASA is a nonprofit membership association that was established in 1905 with a mission to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a science and profession, and promote the contributions and utilization of sociology by society.
