Snake Bites on the Rise in Israel: Tips to Stay Safe from Deadly Encounters

30 Cases of Assaults Reported in Israel Since the Beginning of the Month

In recent weeks, there has been a rise in snake bites in Israel, with several cases reported. One such case involved a 60-year-old man who usually feeds the birds in his house every morning. On a particular morning, he discovered a large snake under the birdcage and attempted to wrestle with it. Unfortunately, the snake bit him on the hand after he cut off its head to protect himself.

The man was treated by Dr. Salim Halavi, the director of the emergency room at the Carmel Medical Center. He received adrenaline, fluids, and serum to counteract the venom. However, the man also experienced heart rhythm disorders due to the snake bite, which could lead to serious complications.

Doral Erzuan, a senior MDA paramedic and snake catcher, advised people to stay away from snakes if encountered and called a professional snake catcher for assistance. He also emphasized taking precautions such as eliminating hiding places and food sources for snakes and closing windows and installing nets to prevent them from entering buildings. By doing so, individuals can reduce their risk of encountering snakes and experiencing bites.

Snake bites can be dangerous or even life-threatening if not treated promptly. It is essential to seek medical attention immediately if bitten by a snake and avoid handling or attempting to catch it on your own.

In conclusion, while snakes are an integral part of nature’s ecosystem, they can pose significant risks when encountered in urban areas. Taking proactive measures such as securing homes against snakes’ entry can help prevent these incidents from happening again.

Mako Health has reported that despite efforts by health professionals and paramedics to save lives through quick response times and efficient treatments like adrenaline shots and antivenom therapy, more needs must be done to raise awareness about the dangers posed by snakes during hot weather months when their populations increase rapidly. The rising number of cases highlights this need for increased awareness among individuals living in Israel.

Therefore, it is crucial for individuals living in Israel to take necessary precautions against snake encounters such as avoiding disturbing their habitats or feeding birds near their homes while also seeking professional assistance when needed.
