Football player’s sudden death mourned by Slippery Rock University

The Slippery Rock University community is in mourning after the sudden death of football student-athlete Jake Baker. In a joint statement from the university, its athletic department, and The Rock football team, the news of Baker’s passing was announced.

Baker was described as a terrific student, teammate, and cherished member of the Rock football family by head coach Shawn Lutz. The team expressed their heartbreak over his loss and offered their deepest condolences to his family and friends. Baker played his first season at Slippery Rock in 2023, appearing in eight games as a defensive end. His contributions were crucial in helping The Rock secure the 2023 West title and reach the NCAA II Quarterfinals.
