Sinsheimer Elementary Students Sell Products, Plant Trees with Local Business and Environmental Organization

Local business partners with students to raise money for tree planting

Recently, students at Sinsheimer Elementary School in San Luis Obispo collaborated with a local business, Junk Girls, to create and sell products as part of the Build-A-Business Club. Through their product sales, they were able to raise $1,500 for a community project.

Excited about their success, the students worked with the Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo (ECOSLO) to plant three trees at Sinsheimer Park as part of ECOSLO’s Urban Tree Planning program, “Keys for Trees.” The tree planting initiative took place on Arbor Day and was an important step towards San Luis Obispo’s goal of achieving carbon-neutrality by 2035.

Genevieve Palazzo and Sophia Bastidas, both 5th graders at Sinsheimer Elementary, shared their enthusiasm about the project and expressed gratitude for the support and involvement of Junk Girls and ECOSLO in helping them make a positive impact on the environment and the community.

Grant Helete, ECOSLO’s program coordinator, highlighted the organization’s commitment to working with schools and organizations on similar projects. The collaboration between students, local businesses, and environmental organizations showcases the power of community partnerships in promoting sustainability and teaching valuable life skills in the business world.
