Simpsonville City Council Approves Rezoning Request and Accepts GCRA Action Plan with Funding

Simpsonville City Council Approves Rezoning Request for Salon and Construction Business

During the April 9 meeting of Simpsonville City Council, several key decisions were made. One of the notable decisions was the initial approval given to a rezoning request for a property at 504 Boyd Ave. This property currently houses David Michael Salon and J. Callahan Construction. The property was previously rezoned for industrial use to allow David Dytman to build a manufacturing business. However, Dytman did not proceed with the construction and now wants to return the property to its business general zoning. Planning & Economic Development Director Jon Derby presented this information, and the final approval for this rezoning request will be considered on May 14.

In addition to the rezoning request, the City Council also approved a resolution to accept GCRA’s 2024-25 action plan and funding. This includes $185,505 in community development block grant funds and $236,633 in HOME funds. The CDBG funds can be used to assist low- and moderate-income individuals, address community blight, or fulfill urgent community needs where other funding is unavailable. On the other hand, HOME funds are designated for increasing the supply of affordable housing for people with moderate incomes. These funds will contribute to community development efforts in Simpsonville by supporting initiatives that help residents thrive and achieve their goals.
