Simone Biles, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, recently made headlines by prioritizing her mental health and withdrawing from the team and all-around finals. Her decision to focus on her well-being and safety has sparked important conversations about the importance of mental health, even at the highest levels of competition.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Family Life Counseling and Psychiatric Services is hosting a free lunch event in Central Park gazebo on May 24 from noon to 2 p.m. The event will feature live testimonials from individuals who have found success in their recovery journeys, along with free food, snacks, and drinks. There will also be a resource table staffed by Family Life employees, as well as games like cornhole and music for attendees to enjoy.
The theme of the event is “Next Generation Mental Health ― Taking mental health services to where they are needed.” Family Life Counseling offers a range of services, including school-based programs and general mental health counseling. This event aims to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and provide support to those who may need it.
For more information about the event, you can contact lwhitmir@gannett.com or visit their website for additional details. Let’s continue to prioritize mental health and support each other in our journeys towards wellness.
