Alyah, a 28-year-old secretary from diverse backgrounds, shares her experience of experiencing intense abdominal cramps that left her bedridden despite her attempts to ease the pain with over-the-counter medication. On a particular day in March, she persevered through the discomfort, hoping that extra painkillers would help her get through her day at the office. However, the cramps became unbearable, and she ended up going to an emergency room just before lunch. A thorough examination revealed that she had endometriosis on her ovaries.

Alyah shared her experience during a telephone interview on April 22, highlighting how the endometriosis had been growing inside her for years, pressing on her pelvic nerves and causing excruciating pain. She expressed disbelief that she had thought period pains were normal all this time.

Several women from diverse backgrounds share their personal experiences to shed light on misconceptions about women’s reproductive health.
