For many years, Mr. Tu has been experiencing shoulder pain while continuing to do heavy work. Recently, his condition worsened as he completely tore his rotator cuff tendon and developed muscle atrophy.
On April 2, M.D. Ho Van Duy An from the Orthopedics Trauma Center at Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City diagnosed Mr. Tu with a serious tear in the rotator cuff tendon of his shoulder. The rotator cuff muscle consists of four tendons that play a crucial role in arm extension and shoulder rotation movements.
Mr. Tu had completely torn his supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons, leading to significant damage and muscle atrophy. Due to his continued strenuous activities despite experiencing shoulder pain, the tear worsened over time, resulting in reduced tendon quality and level 3 fatty degeneration.
To repair the torn tendon, the patient underwent a procedure involving a tendon graft using an allograft. This innovative technique improves the success rate of rotator cuff tendon surgeries and allows for faster recovery compared to traditional methods.
Following the surgery, Mr. Tu experienced relief from pain and improved mobility in his shoulder joint. With proper rehabilitation and care, he is expected to return to heavy work within six months without the risk of recurring tendon tears
