In an unexpected turn of events, Westview High School coach Jamal Jones resigned after an incident at an Oregon football camp. Jones had been accused of waking up players in the early morning hours by slapping and shaking them. His resignation was announced in an email sent to parents by WHS principal Matt Pedersen.

The meeting scheduled with the assistant coaching staff later that morning aimed to provide more information about team gatherings, football workouts, and practices. The main goal was to ensure the safety and comfort of the players and their families, as well as prepare for a successful season ahead.

Jones had previously been head coach at Franklin High School in Portland, Ore., and Arcata High School in California. He was on leave from his job as a Hillsboro police officer during his tenure at Westview High School. Despite concerns among the community, the school is now working to address the situation and move forward in a positive direction.
