On Monday, a black bear was shot and killed by a business owner in Canton, according to police. The incident took place at a business located on Cheryl Drive. Canton police confirmed that the bear had been rummaging through a trash bin, causing trash debris to spill out. The business owner was in the process of cleaning up when the bear returned to the bin.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has taken over the investigation into the shooting. DEEP wildlife biologists and EnCon Police responded to the scene where an untagged adult male bear had been killed. The bear was reportedly feeding in an unsecured dumpster before it was shot by the business owner.

As of now, the details of the investigation have not been fully disclosed. However, the shooting of the bear has raised concerns and sparked discussions about human-bear interactions in the area.
